Our Story

Having lived in Ahwatukee since 1988, Physical Therapist Chad Waits has always sought to serve the community he grew up in, and which became the hometown to his children. After seeing the need for greater access to high-quality musculoskeletal care, Chad decided to take his 17 years of experience as a clinical leader with advanced training and open a private practice. In 2023, Waits Physical Therapy opened its doors to begin caring for the greater Ahwatukee community!

What makes Waits Physical Therapy different is our strong focus on clinical reasoning to help our patients heal and reach their goals. A person doesn’t just get put through a plan of care. We use critical thinking and creative strategies to help an individual improve in the way that is best for them. This approach fosters a collaborative and fun environment that patients enjoy being part of and where they ultimately find success.

Chad Waits grew up in Ahwatukee and received his undergraduate degree from the University of Arizona. During his time as a Wildcat, Chad worked as a technician with the wheelchaired tennis team at the University of Arizona Disability Resource Center. What started as a fun way to help people while he went to school, ultimately led Chad to choosing physical therapy as a career path.

He went on to complete doctorate in physical therapy from AT Still University in Mesa. Since then, Chad’s heart for learning and achieving a higher level of clinical understanding has kept him a student of the profession. He places a high value on mentorship and continuing education and serves as an adjunct profession at AT Still University, holds multiple certifications, and is one of only 2,144 fellowship trained providers in Orthopedic Manual Physical Therapy across the nation.

Chad has been recognized locally for his exceptional care and received AZ Central’s Best of the Desert Award in 2021 and 2022. He specializes in spinal manipulation, joint replacement rehabilitation, and resistance training. His certifications include:

  • Dry Needling
  • Certified Pilates Teacher (PMA-CPT)
  • APTA Board Certified Orthopedic Clinical Specialist (OCS)
  • Certification in Orthopedic Manual Therapy (COMT) from the Ola Grimsby Institute
  • Fellow of the American Academy of Orthopedic Manual Physical Therapists (FAAOMPT)

When he’s not mentoring staff or caring for patients, Chad spends most of his time as a spectator and enjoys watching his children participate in school and club sports!

Raised in a family filled with nurses, and having grown up playing sports up to and throughout college, Frankie always had a personal connection with health, movement, and service. Frankie joins our team from the Chicagoland area where he graduated from the University of Illinois at Chicago with a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Kinesiology with a concentration in Exercise and Health Promotion. He then spent the next few years upholding the values of his degree as a personal trainer and later manager of community based fitness club serving over 2,000 members. Wanting to develop a deeper understanding of health and sense of service, Frankie chose to pack his bags and move to Arizona with his wife to begin a career in physical therapy. In 2023, Frankie earned his Doctorate of Physical Therapy degree from the Arizona School of Health Sciences at A.T. Still University. He is now enrolled in their Orthopedic Physical Therapy Residency program to continue his development as a clinician specializing in orthopedics. In his spare time, you can find Frankie playing sand volleyball or catching a lift in the weight room. You might also find him exploring trails or cheering on his hometown Bulls with his wife and their dog, Boba.
